Severe Weather Photographs Needed for Upcoming Storm Chasing Exhibition
We are inviting the community to contribute to an upcoming exhibit that documents weather phenomenon throughout Oklahoma’s history. The upcoming gallery exhibition, Storm Chasing, examines everything from the work of Oklahoma’s brave storm chasing community to local myths and legends to the drama of the 1996 film Twister. The exhibit will provide a unique look at weather’s social impact and, with that in mind, OCH welcomes photographs from the community that showcase the frightening beauty, violence, and aftermath of our state’s extreme weather. We are especially interested in the state’s historic tornadoes, the February 2021 ice storms, June 2023’s violent windstorm, and other notable weather events.
If you have one or more photographs that you would like to contribute, please send an email that includes the photo(s), your full name, email address, cellphone number, and a one-sentence description of each photo (place, date, and any unique facts) to humanities@utulsa.edu. Applicants may provide up to three photos, included as attachments, in their email. Participants whose photographs are chosen will receive further instructions via email.
The opening of the exhibit will be part of the July 5 First Friday Art Crawl and will run through August 31. This exhibit will be free and open to the public.
Photos are due by the end of May.
