Publishing Workshop with Kevin Dettmar

Event to take place April 14, 3:30p. Event to be held at 101 Archer in downtown Tulsa.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kevin Dettmar for a moderated lecture about writing and publishing in mainstream venues. This is a challenging task, one that asks academics to parse complex ideas into a writing that non-specialists can understand. Dettmar will speak to this unique and urgent challenge for academics. If, as many have suggested, academic study is too disconnected from the public, then it is imperative for our community to consider the broader impact and relevance of the research happening in higher education.

Dettmar will be in conversation with Ted Genoways, a President’s Professor of Media Studies at TU. This event is co-sponsored and organized with the Henneke Center and Office of the Provost.

Kevin Dettmar is the W.M. Keck Professor of English and the director of The Humanities Studio at Pomona College. He has written several books of literary and music criticism, including Gang of Four’s Entertainment!, Think Rock, and The Illicit Joyce of Postmodernism. Along with a substantial corpus of academic writing, Dettmar has written for mainstream publications, such as The Atlantic Monthly and the Chronicle of Higher Education. Dettmar is currently working on a three-volume edition of the unpublished correspondence of James Joyce for Oxford University Press.
