108 | Contemporary, The Woody Guthrie Center, and The Oklahoma Center for Humanities are excited to host California-based musician and composer Lance Canales as he performs a rendition of Woody Guthrie’s “Plane Wreck at Los Gatos (Deportee).” Inspired by the 1948 Los Gatos plane crash that took the lives of 32 individuals, including 28 only recently identified Mexican farm workers. The song, which has been covered by artists such as Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash, has been renewed with the names of the previously unnamed victims.
Mirroring the experiences of Consuelo J. Underwood’s upbringing in a family of Mexican migrant workers, this performance will only be amplified by sharing a space with Underwood’s thought-provoking tapestries and installations.
The show and talk are free and open to the public and will take place Saturday July, 14, 2018 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the 108 Contemporary Gallery located downtown at 108 East Mathew Brady Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74103.
