All the Rage: The Culture of Online Anger–Virtual Event

OCH is proud to welcome Dr. Dannagal Goldthwaite Young and A.J. Bauer, who will be joining us to discuss the culture and psychology of online political outrage.

As the new and emerging online media continues to evolve and become more accessible, navigating political discourse and the language of ideological outrage is becoming more and more requisite for online literacy.

Join us on October 29, 2020 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM.

This FREE event will be hosted on Zoom. Register here!

About the Guests:

Dr. Dannagal Goldthwaite Young’s book Irony and Outrage is an incisive survey of the various channels by which both conservative and progressive political satire and commentary are spread. Dr. Dannagal Goldthwaite Young argues opinion talk is the political satire of the right, and political satire is the opinion programming of the left. The language of conservative and progressive discourse is dependent on the channels and platforms that support them.

A.J. Bauer is a Visiting Assistant Professor at NYU and co-editor of the recent book News on the Right. He will start as Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama in 2021. His dissertation, BeforeFair and Balanced’: Conservative Media Activism and the Rise of the New Right received support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and American Council of Learned Societies. His work has also appeared in The Daily Texan, the Austin American-Statesman, the Texas Observer, The Patriot Ledger, the Boston Globe, Social Text Periscope and The Guardian.
